DREAMS AND VISIONS

Matthew 1:19-21
Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her (Mary) a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary, thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS; for He shall save His people from their sins."

The conception of the LORD JESUS CHRIST was announced and defended in dreams and visions. The first was to Mary, when she gave her permission, in a vision, to conceive the Son of GOD. Gabriel appeared to her (Luke 1: 26-38) and announced that she was chosen to be the vessel of the birth of JESUS. Joseph had a dream, in which the angel of the LORD appeared to him, verifying that Mary would have the Child JESUS and naming Him to Joseph. This dream prevented Joseph from abandoning Mary. Dreams and visions from the LORD are true and will come to pass by the power of the Holy Spirit of GOD.

There is another element in this account of the conception and birth of JESUS which reveals how we are to respond to a dream or vision. First, GOD reveals Himself to us in a way that is real and personal, there is no doubt that this visitation is from GOD. Next, we are asked to agree with the message of the dream or vision. This is very important, because GOD always respects our consent. We must agree with His plan for us. Next, all the unfolding of the dream or vision is in the hands of GOD. The timing of the fulfillment of the dream/vision, the method of the unfolding, the people involved and the "fullness of time". We are willing participants in the plan of GOD, we can not rush His plan or manipulate it; we flow with Him in agreement.

The plans of GOD for our life are perfect plans, He fulfills those plans in a perfect way and gives us the knowledge that He is in control of everything. When we follow Him, he leads us in the "path of righteousness for His Name Sake" (Psalm 23:3).

Lead me LORD, lead me in Thy righteousness; make thy way plain before my face. For it is Thou, LORD, Thou LORD only that makest me dwell in safety.
