Job 1:5, 10
(5) And it was, when the days of their feasting were finished, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "it may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed GOD in their hearts," thus did Job continually. (10) [Satan said to the LORD] "Hast not Thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land."
PROTECTION AND OVERCOMING POWER OF THE BLOOD
In the Old Testament there are foreshadows of the Atonement through the shed Blood of JESUS. One is the story of Job, a man of GOD, who stood in the gap for his family by sacrifices to GOD. In order to have a "burnt Offering" there must be the shedding of the blood of an animal. Job shed the blood of an animal to atone for the possible sin of his sons.
Satan wanted to defeat Job, as a way of hurting GOD. Satan acknowledged that Job was being protected by GOD through the hedge of protection around him and his entire life and the life of his family. This "hedge" was a blood hedge which Satan could not cross. It was put there by GOD in response to the shedding of Blood for the burnt offering for Job's sons.
The Blood of JESUS has that power of protection for us; He is our Blood hedge. JESUS is the spotless Lamb of GOD who is the Atonement for our sins. We have the authority to plead the Blood of JESUS over all our life and the life of our family and friends. Hebrews 9: 20 says,"This is the Blood of the testament which GOD hath enjoined unto you." "Enjoined" means 1. to direct with authority and emphasis; command. 2. To command for a desired result. We have been given the right to apply or plead the Blood of JESUS, by GOD, Himself.
Job pleaded the Blood of Atonement with animals for his family, continually; we have the right to plead the Blood of JESUS for ours, thus creating a hedge of protection around our home and loved ones which cannot be crossed by evil.
