I Peter 2:24
Who His own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.
JESUS BORE OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BODY
While the whole world was lost in sin; while we were yet sinners, JESUS took the sin on Himself to the Cross that we and the World might be saved through Him. He bore the sins so that we could be righteous through Him. Peter wants the readers to know that all that JESUS did was for them; "Christ's death was more than just an example, that by sharing His cross we will share His triumphant life." (Wycliff Bible Commentary, pg. 1448)
Notice the words, "By whose stripes ye were healed." This is past tense and is the same in the Greek. It tells us that our healing WAS accomplished by the Cross and the beatings which JESUS took for us. Our part is to walk in the knowledge that by those wounds, we WERE healed. It is accomplished and finished by JESUS; it is accomplished and finished in us as we confess this truth.
BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS WE ARE RECONCILED TO GOD; BY HIS WOUNDS WE WERE HEALED.
