PROFIT OF PRAYER - EVERYTHING

Tuesday, July 27, 2010
Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

The second principle of "the profit of prayer" is: Prayer keeps us from falling.

In the key verse, we find JESUS in the garden of Gethsemane in the most horrific agony. He has asked His closest friends to stay with Him and support Him while He prayed. After He prayed the first time, He went to where his friends were and found them asleep. This prompted JESUS to make the statement: "Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation."

Prayer keeps us from falling into sin and getting entangled in addictive snares. In the prayer that JESUS taught his disciples, He said: "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil"(Matthew 6:13). In this perfect prayer, there is a petition for GOD to protect from evil and to guard against temptations beyond our control. Prayer prevents temptation and evil.

What is being suggested here is that before temptations and misfortunes, we need to pray for GOD'S hand of Love and mercy, His grace to surround us so that we do not fall into harm. "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak", prayer brings GOD'S power into all situations and we are kept from falling.

WATCH AND PRAY
