PALM SUNDAY

John 12: 12, 13
On the next day many people that were come to the feast, when they heard that JESUS was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet Him, and cried, "Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel, that cometh in the name of the LORD". ( Continue reading verses 14-19).

All four Gospels record the coming of JESUS into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey; they are: Matthew 21: 1-9; Mark 11: 1-10; Luke 19: 29-38; and John 12: 12-19. I would encourage you to read all four accounts and make note of the similarities and the differences. I also encourage you to cross reference all the marked phrases.

Why did the people shout, " Blessed is the King of Israel, that cometh in the name of the LORD"?
Was it a recognition that JESUS was the Messiah? or was it because they wanted a liberator from the tyranny of Rome?
Why did JESUS ride on a Donkey, not a horse? Why, when He returns, will He ride a horse, not a donkey?

I believe that the people saw JESUS as the liberator of the people from the tyranny of Rome and only some knew Him as the Messiah according to the Scripture. JESUS fulfilled all the Scripture concerning the Messiah and this one is found in Zechariah 9:9-11.

The horse symbolizes a warrior/King and conqueror. The warrior/Kings rode in triumph into the city to proclaim victory in war. The donkey is the symbol of peace. JESUS is the Prince of peace and through His death and resurrection He reconciled and brought peace between GOD and man. JESUS is the peace/King who won the victory through His humility, meekness and love; A VERY DIFFERENT KIND OF BATTLE.

When JESUS returns, He will ride a great white horse (Revelation 19: 110). For He will ride in triumph, making war on evil. And He shall be called the WORD OF GOD. (Revelation 19: 13). COME LORD JESUS, COME!

HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMETH IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.
