The verse from James has a threefold guideline for all of us: be swift to hear; be slow to speak; slow to wrath.
When we make it our goal to "hear the voice of GOD", we take time to listen. When we speak out what we hear from GOD, we are slow to speak. What is the difference between hearing and listening? We hear a lot of things: noise, ringing, talking, and a large number of sounds, most of which we ignore or filter out.
