2 Kings 4:1b, 1c
"Thy servant, my husband, is dead, and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD; and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be slaves."
The plight of a widow in the time of the prophets, was severe. A woman without a husband had no status in the community and no inheritance, the creditors had the right to take away all that she possessed, including her sons. The years of service for the slaves was 7 years, so she would have been without her sons for the full time of indenture.
Since this widows husband was part of the Prophet School of Elisha, this "certain woman" appealed to him, because he would have known her husband. She had, also become a GOD fearing woman, through the teaching of Elisha and her husband. It is thought, by Scholars, that this is the widow of Obadiah, the prophet.
In the next postings, I will give keys to receiving a miracle, which are found in this account of the widow and Elisha. The biggest foundation for a miracle is: BELIEVE GOD. BE CERTAIN THAT GOD WILL HEAR AND ANSWER THE PETITIONS WE MAKE IN HIS NAME. Let us be certain of that.
