Matthew 24: 1, 3a
And JESUS went out, and departed from the temple; and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple... And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately...
When JESUS desired to be alone with His disciples for time of teaching and sharing His heart with them, He would go to the Mount of Olives where there was peace and quiet. JESUS did not want any distractions or hindrances to mar the attention of the disciples.
We need to take particular note of this, because we are surrounded by distractions and interruptions in our daily life: cell phones, radio, television, telephone, issues with children and family. All these distractions have meaning and are the source of pleasure or teaching, but it is the time with JESUS that gives us the words to say and the wisdom to resolve issues. The time with JESUS must be quality time, so we must find a place where we can be alone with GOD and hear Him speak.
You are asking, "what about the Scripture, doesn't that give us the answers we seek?" Absolutely!!!!! To hear what the Word of GOD is telling us, we must have quiet and solitude, in order to meditate on the Word of the LORD. The Holy Spirit is teaching and bringing into our remembrance all that JESUS has said. He is speaking right now, are we listening??? To listen, we must be quiet and focused on JESUS; listen like Mary did, sitting at the feet of JESUS. Martha was distracted by much doing, Mary was attentive to the Word of JESUS. We must focus on JESUS and His Word to us without distractions. It is up to us to choose to be in His presence in our own Mount of Olives-the place of prayer.
