John 20: 6-8 (NIV)
Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around JESUS' head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. Finally, the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.
THE CLOTH WAS FOLDED UP BY ITSELF
In the traditions of royalty, the Master of the house would signal to the servants whether he was finished at the table or whether he was coming back, by how the napkin was folded. If the napkin was not folded, the Master was not going to return, he was finished; if the napkin was folded, the Master was going to RETURN. JESUS was saying that HE WAS GOING TO RETURN AGAIN, He was giving a signal to His servants.
We, His servants, need to be looking for the Master to return, He has shown us that He will. Where is the proof? JESUS said that He would return; Scripture says that He will return; the empty tomb says that He has risen from the dead and the folded napkin says that HE WILL RETURN AGAIN.
Peter and John believed that the LORD JESUS had risen from the dead, by the proof of the empty tomb. The One they served had risen just like He said that He would; the One we serve is risen from the dead and so shall we, like Him, rise from the dead; the One we serve is coming again, and so shall we come with Him and share in His life as sons and daughters.
