Matthew 2: 11
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, His mother, and they fell down, and worshiped Him; and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, frankincense and myrrh.
THE GIFTS
"What shall I give Him, poor as I am...what I can I give Him, give my heart."
This season of giving gifts has taken on a meaning that is far away from the giving of the gifts of the wise men. They came from a very great distance in search of the KING of the JEWS, JESUS; when they found Him, they fell down to worship Him. They worshiped the One whom they knew to be the MESSIAH, KING, EMMANUEL, AND LORD.
The wise men gave treasures to JESUS. Treasures are not just "store bought" trinkets, the are items of great value and speak of great meaning. The gold signifies the Deity, Royalty, Kingship and authority of JESUS; Frankincense was used on the Brazen Altar for a sweet smell in the smoke that arose to GOD, this symbolizes the Priestly position of JESUS as mediator between GOD and man; Myrrh, signifies he death JESUS would die for the redemption of man.
There is more to be found in the acts of the wise men, they "fell down and worshiped". In the Revelation 4: 10,11, we see the "four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sits on the Throne and worshiped Him that liveth for ever and ever." This is the response to the Presence of the Holy One. Then, they ' cast their crowns before the Throne saying 'Thou art worthy O LORD, to receive glory, and honor and power." The most powerful and honored men on earth, wise men and 24 elders "cast their crowns" at the feet of the ONE who is worthy
JESUS CHRIST THE LORD.
This day, let us follow the wise men and the 24 elders, giving to JESUS the only gift we can give,
OUR HEART TO HIM. HE ALONE IS WORTHY.
