THE EVE OF CHRISTMAS
Matthew 1: 20,21
But while he (Joseph) thought on these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary, thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall call his name JESUS; for He shall save His people from their sins.
It is remarkable how Joseph, this honorable man of GOD, believed and acted on his belief to protect Mary and the baby JESUS. We often think about the faithfulness and obedience of Mary as being remarkable, which it is; think about the faithfulness and obedience of Joseph. By Jewish law, Joseph could have put Mary out of his life and publicly disgraced her for being pregnant before their marriage. Joseph obeyed the angel, sent from GOD, and protected his betrothed. This means that JESUS was protected from harm, also.
This is the Eve of Christmas, the towns and cities are buzzing with last minute shoppers. There is noise and confusion everywhere. Parties are being readied and plans are in the works for a glorious Christmas, with family and friends. In a setting such as this, the Holy Child, JESUS was born in the utmost humility and poverty. There was no room in the Inn, only a stable with animals. The Son of GOD was born in obscurity, while the towns and cities were a buzz with activity. Joseph, Mary, the animals and all of heaven witnessed the birth of GOD'S Son. The people of the world walked in darkness, rushing around looking for someone to save them. In the midst of their world, the Savior Christ is born, the savior of the world.
Today, right now, in the rush of our life, as we hurry around to find that last Christmas gift; LOOK, AND SEE, in the lowliest and smallest place, GOD will arise. He is here; He is with us; He is Immanuel, GOD with us; HE IS JESUS, look and see, He is here. Turn to Him, open your heart to Him and let Him be born in you and you be born again. NOW IS THE DAY OF REDEMPTION.
O COME TO MY HEART, LORD JESUS, THERE IS ROOM IN MY HEART FOR THEE.
